IN THIS LESSON

the nail cycle.

Nails grow from the matrix, the hidden "root" beneath the cuticle, where new keratin cells form and push older cells forward to harden into the visible nail plate. Fingernails grow 3mm per month, with full regrowth taking 3–6 months. Growth speeds up with youth, good circulation, and in warm climates, while slowing due to aging, illness (causing temporary ridges like Beau’s lines), or nutrient deficiencies (biotin/iron). Trauma or inflammation to the matrix can permanently alter nail shape. Keep nails healthy by protecting the matrix during manicures and maintaining a balanced diet.

Fun fact: Nails on your dominant hand grow slightly faster!
