Different types of files and what they are used for.
Different nail files serve unique purposes based on their grit level (coarseness) and material:
Buffers (500+ Grit) β Smooth ridges and add shine; gentle for natural nails.
240-Grit File β Medium refinement; ideal for shortening and lightly shaping natural nails without splitting.
180-Grit File β Slightly coarser; best for faster shaping of thicker nails or minor edge corrections.
Glass/Crystal Files (Fine Grit) β Seal nail edges to prevent fraying; great for weak or peeling nails.
Pro Tip: Always file in one direction (no sawing!) to avoid micro-tears. Use finer grits (240+) for natural nails to maintain strength.
